When can I do this trip?

The calendar on the website shows all departure dates, available spots and prices.

Would you like to be notified personally when new departure dates are posted online? If so, please complete this form with your details.

Can I customise the trip to my own liking?

As we offer a fully organised trip, it is not possible to adjust the duration or itinerary. However, you are free to extend your trip independently by spending a few extra days on site afterwards, for example, or continuing your journey to another country.

Do you want to take action for nature?

Thanks to our collaboration with Greentripper, you can offset the CO₂ emissions linked to your trip. Your contribution supports a certified project in Uganda that distributes more efficient cooking stoves, significantly reducing fuel consumption. Travelbase also contributes to this initiative.

Prices & Booking Conditions

What documents do I need for this trip?

  • A international driving licence or an official English translation of your national licence, so that local police can understand it. A certified translation is sufficient and can be requested through this website.

How old do I need to be to be able to drive?

For this trip, you must be at least 23 years old and have held a driving licence for 2 years.

The basic price includes the following: a fully equipped car, overnight stays at unique locations, a comprehensive roadbook with useful tips and tricks, access to an exclusive app, and support before and during your trip.

What are the additional costs?

What is the payment procedure?

There are various payment options, including Bancontact, Mastercard, iDeal. If you have a Travelbase voucher, you can use it as well.

If your payment fails, it is likely due to an incorrect reference number or exceeding your account limit.

Can I modify my registration?

Depending on availability, you can add or remove most options (except cancellation insurance) until 45 days before departure. Generally, we follow a first-come, first-served principle, so early decision-makers are at an advantage.

With how many people can I book this road trip?

Namibia Nomads has been designed for groups of 2 to 5 people.

If you are a group of 3 or more, we will provide an extra rooftop tent and camping material, as one rooftop tent can only accommodate 2 people.

Would you like to participate with more than 5 people? That's possible, but you will have to organise into smaller groups. Each group has to register separately and will be allocated its own car. Do not hesitate to contact us in advance so we can check whether there are still enough available cars.

Can I still cancel my trip?

It is always possible to cancel your trip. You can find the general cancellation conditions here. You can also rely on the Superflex cancellation conditions. More info under the FAQ ‘What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?

What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?

The Superflex cancellation conditions are available for anyone who books early.

You can reschedule your trip to another period within the same season (depending on availability) or cancel for free before 1 June 2026 (for the autumn edition in 2026).

If the deadline to use the Superflex conditions has passed, the general cancellation conditions apply.

Preparation

What should I bring?

Check out the Namibia Nomads packing list, which has been carefully put together by our experienced team. The packing list includes everything you need for your adventure, from clothing to equipment and useful extras.

Do I need to get vaccinated before I leave?

No vaccinations are mandatory for traveling to Namibia, but some are highly recommended:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus
  • Polio

Want to travel with peace of mind or are you part of a high-risk group? In that case, we recommend consulting a doctor or a clinic specializing in travel medicine.

Is it necessary to take anti-malarial medication?

According to the official malaria risk area maps, we can reassure you: the route of our trip only passes through low-risk areas.

Although the risk is generally low, you may choose to take antimalarial medication. However, most travelers prefer simple prevention measures, such as:

  • Wearing long, lightweight clothing in the evening.
  • Using the mosquito net integrated into the rooftop tent.
  • Applying mosquito repellent containing DEET for extra protection.
  • Limiting exposure as much as possible between sunset and sunrise, when mosquitoes are most active.

These recommendations are based on our experience as well as that of our local partners. If you would like personalized medical advice or if you belong to a high-risk group, we recommend consulting a doctor or a travel medicine clinic. Antimalarial treatments are only available by prescription.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Arrival & on the road

Where will you spend the first night?

In most cases, you'll spend the first night at the Tenbergen Pension.

There are two ways to get to the hotel:

  • If you booked your flights through Namibia Nomads, your shuttle to the hotel is included.
  • If you booked your own flights, you can take a taxi to your first hotel. You’ll find more information a few weeks before departure in the Travelbase app.
Can I take a drone to Namibia?

Yes, it is allowed to bring a drone to Namibia, but certain rules must be followed:

Where is it possible to fly a drone?
You can fly your drone in areas where it is not expressly prohibited.

In Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, and the Moon Landscape region, flying a drone is strictly prohibited.

At Spitzkoppe, it may be allowed in certain areas, but be sure to check with the reception on-site first.

It is also forbidden to fly over wildlife, groups of people, cities, or other national parks.

Permit Application
To officially fly your drone in Namibia, you must apply for a drone permit from the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) before your departure. You can find more concrete information on the application process on this website.

Tip: Use common sense, respect nature, other travelers, and local rules.

What about food and drinks on the road?

Cooking with your 4x4 and rooftop tent
If you choose the rooftop tent, your 4x4 is equipped with cooking equipment. If you feel like experimenting with local ingredients, you can shop at various places along the way. The supermarkets we recommend can be found in the app. Most campsites also have a braai (local barbecue).

Eating along the route
Whether you’re camping or traveling from lodge to lodge, eating out is always an option. In the roadbook, you’ll find restaurant recommendations where you can try traditional dishes. Most campsites and lodges also have their own restaurant, which is convenient after a full day on the road.

Breakfast
With the lodge version, breakfast is included at most stops. With the camping version, breakfast is only included on the first and last night at the hotel.

Communication

What exactly does the roadbook contain?

Our roadbook contains all the information you need to ensure a successful road trip.

You will find the complete itinerary in it, including all the hotspots and hidden gems that aren't featured in major travel guides. The recommended places have been carefully selected to offer plenty of choice, but you are free to plan your days as you wish.

What's more, our roadbook contains lots of great places where you can grab something to eat or drink.

Driving & camping in Namibia

Is the car manual or automatic?

All our cars in Namibia are automatic.

Where and when to pick up your vehicle?

On day 2, you'll be able to pick up your car in the morning. A shuttle will take you from the hotel where you spent your first night to our car rental partner.

On your return (day 10), you'll need to return the vehicle before 4 PM at Africar. One of our drivers will then take you back to the hotel, where you can relax by the pool and enjoy one last evening.

Is a damage waiver recommended for Namibia?

An accident can happen quickly, which is why we recommend adding a damage waiver to your booking. This coverage will cost you €37 per day and will insure the vehicle when a member of your team is driving. For Namibia (9 days), that totals €333. By selecting this coverage, you won’t have to pay a security deposit.

If you choose not to take coverage, you will need to pay a deposit of €1000 before your departure, and a deductible of up to €3000 may be required in case of damage.

General

Is there on-site support?

On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partners and rangers. They will greet you and give you a brief introduction before your trip begins.

You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants departing on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our team.
