FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us.

What documents do I need for this trip?
  • An international passport valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
  • A international driving licence or an official English translation of your national licence, so that local police can understand it. A certified translation is sufficient and can be requested through this website.
  • A visa: Visa on Arrival. Starting from April 1, 2025, travelers will be required to have a visa to enter Namibia. You can easily apply for this via the official Namibian government website. You will receive more information about the visa application via email after registering.
Do I need to get vaccinated before I leave?

No vaccinations are mandatory for traveling to Namibia, but some are highly recommended:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus
  • Polio

Want to travel with peace of mind or are you part of a high-risk group? In that case, we recommend consulting a doctor or a clinic specializing in travel medicine.

What should I bring?

Check out the Namibia Nomads packing list, which has been carefully put together by our experienced team. The packing list includes everything you need for your adventure, from clothing to equipment and useful extras.

Is it necessary to take anti-malarial medication?

According to the official malaria risk area maps, we can reassure you: the route of our trip only passes through low-risk areas.

Although the risk is generally low, you may choose to take antimalarial medication. However, most travelers prefer simple prevention measures, such as:

  • Wearing long, lightweight clothing in the evening.
  • Using the mosquito net integrated into the rooftop tent.
  • Applying mosquito repellent containing DEET for extra protection.
  • Limiting exposure as much as possible between sunset and sunrise, when mosquitoes are most active.

These recommendations are based on our experience as well as that of our local partners. If you would like personalized medical advice or if you belong to a high-risk group, we recommend consulting a doctor or a travel medicine clinic. Antimalarial treatments are only available by prescription.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Is there on-site support?

On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partners and rangers. They will greet you and give you a brief introduction before your trip begins.

You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants departing on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our team.

How old do I need to be to be able to drive?

For this trip, you must be at least 23 years old and have held a driving licence for 2 years.

Is a damage waiver recommended for Namibia?

An accident can happen quickly, which is why we recommend adding a damage waiver to your booking. This coverage will cost you €37 per day and will insure the vehicle when a member of your team is driving. For Namibia (9 days), that totals €333. By selecting this coverage, you won’t have to pay a security deposit.

If you choose not to take coverage, you will need to pay a deposit of €1000 before your departure, and a deductible of up to €3000 may be required in case of damage.

What are the additional costs?
  • Visa on Arrival: ± €80 per person.
  • Local SIM card: ± €15 per person.
  • Fuel: ± €450 per car.
  • Meals and drinks: ± €15 – €30 per day per person, depending on whether you cook for yourself or eat at a restaurant.
  • National parks & visits: ± €35 – €75 per person (includes Waterberg, Etosha, Namib-Naukluft, and stops along the way).
  • Tips and personal expenses: ± €50 – €100 per person (for guides, gas station staff, parking attendants, and souvenirs).
With how many people can I book this road trip?

Namibia Nomads has been designed for groups of 2 to 5 people.

If you are a group of 3 or more, we will provide an extra rooftop tent and camping material, as one rooftop tent can only accommodate 2 people.

Would you like to participate with more than 5 people? That’s possible, but you will have to organise into smaller groups. Each group has to register separately and will be allocated its own car. Do not hesitate to contact us in advance so we can check whether there are still enough available cars.

Can I take a drone to Namibia?

Yes, it is allowed to bring a drone to Namibia, but certain rules must be followed:

Where is it possible to fly a drone?
You can fly your drone in areas where it is not expressly prohibited.

In Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, and the Moon Landscape region, flying a drone is strictly prohibited.

At Spitzkoppe, it may be allowed in certain areas, but be sure to check with the reception on-site first.

It is also forbidden to fly over wildlife, groups of people, cities, or other national parks.

Permit Application
To officially fly your drone in Namibia, you must apply for a drone permit from the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) before your departure. You can find more concrete information on the application process on this website.

Tip: Use common sense, respect nature, other travelers, and local rules.
