FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us by email.

What documents do I need to travel to Namibia?
  • Passport: an international passport valid for at least 6 months after your travel date.
  • Visa - "Visa On Arrival": Starting from April 1, 2025, Belgian and Dutch travelers will be required to have a visa to enter Namibia.
The application can be easily done through
    the official Namibian government website.
You will receive more information about the visa application via email after your registration.
  • Driver's License: an international driver's license or an official English translation of your national license, so that local police can understand it. A certified translation is sufficient and can be requested through this website.
Do you need a visa to travel to Namibia?

Yes. Since April 1, 2025, travelers from Belgium, the Netherlands, and France are required to apply for a visa to visit Namibia. This can be done easily through the Visa on Arrival system set up by the Namibian government.

Good to know:
If your visa isn't approved by the time you leave, no worries. You can still obtain a Visa on Arrival upon your arrival at Windhoek airport.

Did you mistakenly apply for a Holiday Visa?
No worries, this visa is also valid for your trip to Namibia. It's generally intended for travelers staying over 30 days in the country. The process is a bit longer and slightly more complicated, but the visa is a little cheaper.

Do I need to get vaccinated before I leave?

No vaccinations are mandatory for traveling to Namibia, but some are highly recommended.

Recommended vaccinations

  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus
  • Polio

For the latest recommendations, you can check this website.

Yellow fever

Are you stopping in a country where yellow fever is present, like Ethiopia? As long as you don't leave the airport, the vaccination is not officially required.

However, we highly recommend it: if your flight is delayed and you have to stay more than 12 hours, the vaccine becomes necessary to enter Namibia.

Did you book your flights through us? In that case, you will automatically have a layover in Ethiopia.

Want to travel with peace of mind or are you part of a high-risk group? In that case, we recommend consulting a doctor or a clinic specializing in travel medicine.

Is it necessary to take anti-malaria medication in Namibia?

According to the official malaria risk area maps, we can reassure you: the route of our trip only passes through low-risk areas.

Although the risk is generally low, you may choose to take antimalarial medication. However, most travelers prefer simple prevention measures, such as:

  • Wearing long, lightweight clothing in the evening.
  • Using the mosquito net integrated into the rooftop tent.
  • Applying mosquito repellent containing DEET for extra protection.
  • Limiting exposure as much as possible between sunset and sunrise, when mosquitoes are most active.

These recommendations are based on our experience as well as that of our local partners. If you would like personalized medical advice or if you belong to a high-risk group, we recommend consulting a doctor or a travel medicine clinic. Antimalarial treatments are only available by prescription.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Can I take a drone to Namibia?

Yes, it is allowed to bring a drone to Namibia, but certain rules must be followed:

Where is it possible to fly a drone?
You can fly your drone in areas where it is not expressly prohibited.

In Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, and the Moon Landscape region, flying a drone is strictly prohibited.

At Spitzkoppe, it may be allowed in certain areas, but be sure to check with the reception on-site first.

It is also forbidden to fly over wildlife, groups of people, cities, or other national parks.

Permit Application
To officially fly your drone in Namibia, you must apply for a drone permit from the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) before your departure. You can find more concrete information on the application process on this website.

Tip: Use common sense, respect nature, other travelers, and local rules.

How old do you have to be to drive in Namibia?

For this trip, you must be at least 23 years old and have held a driver’s license for 2 years to drive a car.

Is the car manual or automatic?

All our cars in Namibia are automatic.

What does the roadmap include?

The travel guide contains all the information you need for a successful visit to Namibia. On one hand, the complete itinerary is mapped out. You'll visit the most famous spots in Namibia, but we'll also guide you to lesser-known places that aren't yet on most travel guides' maps. We’ll suggest some addresses, but of course, you’ll have the choice to stop along the way or add extra things beyond what we propose.

The travel guide also includes a series of unique addresses where you can grab a drink or a meal in the evening.

What additional fees should be considered?
  • Fuel: ± €350 per car for the entire trip.
  • Entry to national parks: These fees amount to 150 N$ (± €7.50) per person per night and 50 N$ (± €2.50) per vehicle per night. For example, for a one-night, two-day stay in Etosha with two people in a vehicle, the cost is 700 N$ (± €35) for two people.
  • Food and drinks (variable, depending on your cravings)
  • Local SIM card (± €15)
Can I customize the trip to my liking?

We offer a fully mapped road trip, so it is not possible to adjust the duration of the trip. However, you are of course free to extend your trip on your own initiative, such as staying a few extra days in Namibia or visiting another country.

If you wish to stay in a different place than the one we have booked for you or skip certain stops to prioritize other points, that is completely possible, but you will need to handle the booking yourself.

How many people can we take on this trip?

Namibia Nomads has been specially designed for groups of 2, 3, or 4 people.

If you're 3 or 4, we provide an extra rooftop tent along with camping gear (mattress, sleeping bag, and pillow), as a single rooftop tent is only spacious enough for a maximum of 2 people.

How does the payment process work?

Within 10 days of your registration, you will need to pay a 35% deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you have until 45 days before departure to modify your options and pay the balance. If you change your options, the deposit will be recalculated automatically.

You will also need to pay a security deposit shortly before departure. The amount of the deposit depends on the car insurance you have chosen (more information in the car insurance section).

There are different payment options. Did your payment fail? It’s likely due to an error when entering the reference number or exceeding your account limit.

Can I still cancel my trip?

You can still cancel your trip. You can find the cancellation conditions here. You can also refer to the Superflex cancellation conditions until December 1, 2024 (for the spring 2025 season). For more information, check the FAQ “What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?”

What are the Superflex conditions?

These conditions are available to everyone who books among the first. They allow you to move your trip to another time within the same season (subject to availability) or cancel free of charge before December 1, 2024 (for a trip taking place during the spring 2025 season).

Is there assistance on site?

Upon your arrival in Namibia, you will be warmly welcomed by our local ranger. They will greet you and provide you with some information before you start your road trip.

During your road trip, you will have access to plenty of useful information through our app. Additionally, just before your departure, you will receive an invitation to join a WhatsApp group with other participants traveling on the same date. This group will allow you to communicate with each other.

We will also provide you with a contact number for emergencies.

Do you want to take action for nature?

The planet offers us so many incredible things to admire, especially through our travels. But if we want to enjoy it for a long time to come, we must protect it at all costs. That's why we're making extra efforts to reduce the impact of our travels, and you can also reliably contribute to a climate project Greentripper through the booking form, which offsets the CO2 emissions from your mode of transport. By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect the beautiful forests and the wildlife they shelter, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions from your trip. If you decide to participate in the project, Travelbase will take on the additional responsibility of reducing your carbon footprint during the trip itself. Upon your return, you will also receive an official carbon credit certificate.

To learn more about the efforts and actions implemented by Travelbase, check out the page travelbase.fr/impact.

How can I recover the vehicle keys?

After spending your first night in Windhoek, a shuttle will pick you up at 10 AM from your hotel to take you to the 4x4 rental agency equipped with rooftop tents. A briefing and instructions will be provided before you take control of your vehicle.

On the 10th day, the vehicle must be returned to the same location by 4 PM at the latest. Once the vehicle is returned, a shuttle will take you back to your hotel for your last night.
